Tempe Lake

TEMPE LAKE PANA

LOCATION: Tempe (Metro Phoenix)
Tempe Lake is my local hangout. The man-made lake will barely qualify as a pond for many people from other parts, but its a great place to watch people, enjoy the water and get all around. The entire south side of the lake is accessible and the adjoining park always has something going on. You can rent a boat and the fishing is good for family fun.

For my money, the absolute best place to go for a long stroll in a wheelchair is the south side of Tempe Lake. If you start at the new art complex and head east to Scottsdale Road, you will cover nearly a mile. The view consists of a pretty lake, architecture, parks, bridges, boats, trains, planes, and all kinds of people. Its flat and wide along the lake, and you can deviate from the lake front and climb some hills near the university.

Best of all its right next to Mill Avenue which offers great access to dining, clubs, and shopping. If anyone is visiting Phoenix in a chair, I’d recommend staying on or near Mill.

  1. [...] good reason to visit DBG is that Papago Park is right across the street, and Mill Avenue/ Tempe Lake are near by as well. The combination makes for a great day. Tagged as: Phoenix, photography, [...]
